Clinical Training

MMTS currently serves clients and patients of all ages, in a variety of settings. We currently have an affiliation with the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA to provide clinical experiences for field work students and clinical interns. Interns will have the opportunity to work in diverse settings, including:

  • Medical Hospitals
  • Schools
  • Pediatric Skilled Nursing
  • Private Clients

Within the medical setting, interns will be have to have experience working in:

  • Pediatrics
  • The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Neuro Rehab (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Adult Oncology (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Adolescent and Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Groups

Our pediatric program at Sutter Medical Center includes Sophie's Place, a dedicated space for music therapy. Included in Sophie's Place is a large group room for daily pediatric music therapy groups, as well as a separate recording room for individual and small group sessions. Through our medical music therapy programs, interns will learn how to work alongside the interdisciplinary team (i.e. Child Life Specialists, Social Workers, nurses, physicians, and rehab therapists) to promote wellness and healing for the patients with whom we work. In addition to our medical settings, MMTS offers interns an opportunity to work at school district sites with clients in both individual and group formats. Interns will learn how to work alongside the IEP team to help school-aged clients meet their educational goals and objectives. Finally, MMTS helps interns in learning about business development and marketing, learning from Tara McConnell, MT-BC, the clinical director and owner of MMTS with over 2 decades of business experience.

MMTS is committed to the individual needs of each and every client we serve and each and every employee in our practice and each student we mentor. We promote active collaboration with other health-care professionals in creating a trans-disciplinary approach to treatment.
